Take me out to the ball game…

Was there actually a player who stole first base?

Yes–and it’s the lead-off story in Chris Williams’ latest book, “Stealing First and Other Old-Time Baseball Stories.”

Listen to Chris as he discusses his latest book on a recent BASEBALL PhD podcast…

What People Are Saying

“This book is a treat for baseball fans, especially those who love the history of the game with all its many dimensions.

You will be delighted with Williams’ easy style, his use of statistics to illuminate–but not dominate–his narratives, and his bringing to life familiar–and unfamiliar players, teams, and baseball history.

What a pleasure it is, to read this book!”

Let’s talk baseball…

I grew up in the 1960s and 70s in that famous suburb northeast of Philly, Levittown, PA. We played a lot of sports in my neighborhood; with the Baby Boom in full swing, it was never hard to find enough kids to get a pick-up game of something going. And every now and then, a bunch of us would hop a train to see the Phillies play baseball at Connie Mack Stadium. That’s how my life-long love of baseball started, and here we are, nine books and countless short stories and essays later.
